#granolamom Turmeric and Blueberry Grain-Free Granola

My mom was a legit granola mom. It was embarrassing when I was a kid but then it magically became the cool thing to do, so I let her stay that way. 😏

Technically granola is made from grains, that’s why it’s called granola (“grano" = “grain” in italian) but it’s always been meant as a “health” food and now that our population is overloaded in processed grains and many experts now advise taking it down a notch on the grain train, granola is still great but without the grains if you want it! I grew up eating granola from huge tubs because my mom made it in bulk for us to snack on. I was the kid with the bag of granola for snack time everyday while everyone else had the “cool" pre-packaged snacks in elementary school. True story. Plus, I always say, if you have good food in your home, your kids are going to come back to it as their comfort food. Clearly, we can see this happening in real life as I recreate my mother's granola recipe right here for you. Boom. 👊

NUTRITIONAL LOW-DOWN: Maple syrup is my favorite sweetener for a number of reasons. Yes, it's still sugar, but you're getting so many nutritional benefits in such a small amount, I typically use about 1-2 teaspoons as a serving. Maple syrup is lower on the glycemic index so it impacts your blood sugar at a lower level than cane sugar. It's also loaded with minerals like magnesium, zinc, calcium, iron and potassium annnd it's antioxidant. So it's definitely a win for a natural sweetener. Turmeric is a natural metabolism booster, as is cinnamon and the fiber content from the seeds and nuts allow for detoxification. Plus, fiber is a total weight loss booster, aim for about 27 grams per day. Fiber, fat, AND protein, you're lookin' good with this granola, girl! Remember to keep your serving at around 1/4 cup with about 1/2 cup of plain yogurt (greek and coconut are my go-to's) and maybe a little green juice and black coffee on the side, perf. 👌

Let me know if you try it out, leave a comment here or over on instagram! My granola mom will be so proud.
